Wooden sculpture of the nineteenth century representing the child Jesus sitting by the gesture of blessing with his right hand and holding his left hand the book of scriptures. Dimensions: 42 x 17 x 21 cm. This sculpture is part of the oldest tradition as evidenced by the Sainte-Catherine monastery in Sinai in Egypt who escaped by its location and isolation in the iconoclastic period of the eighth century and was able to maintain its iconographic heritage. In this fortified monastery of Byzantine rite, we find the Christ Pantocrator fresco dating from the sixth century (eschatological representation jesus christ adult when the second coming at the end of time after the last judgment, which usually holds the hand left the holy book and made a gesture of blessing and of the right hand teaching: two outstretched fingers symbolizing the dual nature of Christ: human and divine and the other 3 fingers together contained the Trinity) but also the virgin and child fresco of the sixth century, representing the child sitting on the lap of the virgin and holding in his left hand a scroll. This iconographic tradition has been passed down throughout the particular Byzantine Christian art as evidenced by the basilica of Saint-Sophie in Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey) where we can see Christ Pantocrator in the mosaic of the Deesis 1261 but also virgin Mary holding on her lap christ child who blesses with his right hand while holding a scroll of parchment in his left hand in the mosaic of Comnenus in 1122.

The devotion to the child Jesus grew in the early days of Christianity with the nativity and the epiphany but is experiencing a revival in France in the sixteenth century by theresa of avila and saint jean of the cross, who forward the carmel in spiritual heritage. In Prague, religious worshiped the child Jesus in remembrance of Christ's message: if you do not turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. The child Jesus of Prague is a statuette of jesus christ who is the holder of a devotion to the Child Jesus in Catholicism.

The statuette raises his right hand in blessing while it supports the globe of his left hand. It would have belonged to St. Extract gospel of jesus christ according to saint mark. At that time, the disciples of Jesus sapprochèrent and said, \Then Jesus called a little child; he placed it in the middle two. And he said, \Wood sculpture 19th century, jesus child.
